Jesus began to speak to the chief priests, the scribes,
and the elders in parables.
“A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it,
dug a wine press, and built a tower.
Then he leased it to tenant farmers and left on a journey.
At the proper time he sent a servant to the tenants
to obtain from them some of the produce of the vineyard.
But they seized him, beat him,
and sent him away empty-handed.
Again he sent them another servant.
And that one they beat over the head and treated shamefully.
He sent yet another whom they killed.
So, too, many others; some they beat, others they killed.
He had one other to send, a beloved son.
He sent him to them last of all, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’
But those tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’
So they seized him and killed him,
and threw him out of the vineyard.
What then will the owner of the vineyard do?
He will come, put the tenants to death,
and give the vineyard to others.
Have you not read this Scripture passage:
The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
by the Lord has this been done,
and it is wonderful in our eyes?”
They were seeking to arrest him, but they feared the crowd,
for they realized that he had addressed the parable to them.
So they left him and went away.
Reflection. As a former protestant turned Catholic, I have the privilege at times to see both sides of the fence. But it does amaze me how so many Protestant’s continue to bash and reject the Catholic Church, Christ’s true church, without fully understanding the faith. Today’s Gospel passage harkens sadness, mostly because our brothers and sisters in Christ are not fully educated on Christ’s Holy and venerable Apostolic Church. They cannot comprehend that the Protestant religion, not the Catholic Church was created by man, and man’s schism towards Christ’s teachings. They cannot comprehend that although the Church has had its problems, its teachings of the Word have never changed. The Word of our Lord is the basis for our Mother Church, and just like anything else that contains God’s children, evil at time prevails- even at the highest level. But the one thing that has never failed, and never will, is the Word. The truth, and the remarkable beauty contained within. So many rejections are founded off of ignorance, that at times it seems to me over-whelming. But, just like in Christ’s days, people rejected Him, questioned His divinity, and put Him to Death. Through His rejection, and most importantly His Resurrection, we now have come to believe and understand that we are saved through Him, through His teachings, and most importantly His love. The Catholic Church continues, even after 2000 years to be rejected, persecuted, and bewildered by Protestant and people of another faith’s rejection and out-right persecution, because, they, as a people, are not educated, nor do they understand. We must learn to embrace the will of God, take His Word for what it is, reform our Earthly interpretations of this word, and understand that the Church was founded by Him, and no other, and to reject this corner-stone is a great travesty. I pray every day that our Brothers and Sisters in Christ, particularly in the Protestant Community, read fully, and with an open heart the Catchesis of the the Church, so that they may not reject the cornerstone, but utilize it for the joy and redemption that it has given me. God Bless ~ CJA
